Uni is once more halting any major efforts at completing a couple of paintings that I have on the go. However, my lovely friend Abigail turned 21 last week and to celebrate her birthday, her love of Marvel and her amazing decision to take part in an Iron Man later this year, I decided to have a go at painting the man himself.
Painting superheroes is definitely not my strong suit, but it was a lot of fun none the less. Maybe I’ll have a go at painting some more things that are out of my comfort zone when I’ve got a bit more time to spare.
It’s been a hugely exciting couple of weeks for me in terms of my paintings. It seems my work is being recognized in a really positive way and I have had the opportunity to get some prints made and put up for sale in a local store! The works available are the thermal image painting, and the 2014 Force India (both on canvas) as well as the early Ferrari (framed). I also have the opportunity to create prints of my other paintings should anyone be interested. Here are a couple of pictures of the window display, sorry about the reflections!
I also received and exciting phone call when I was away at the British Grand Prix (WOO LEWIS!!). However, camping and a lack of electricity to charge my phone meant that I didn’t get the message until I got back home after a horrendous, traffic ridden, 8 hour drive. The message was from the Personnel Manager at work, who was inviting me to do a commissioned painting illustrating the branch business plan. I can’t really go into any detail about the content, but it’s going to be a huge painting, 3 or 4 meters long, and will be an ongoing project throughout the year. All the equipment was purchased straight after my meeting and I’ve already begun working on a few elements. I can’t wait to see it all come together!
As far as the paintings I’m working on at the minute, there are two. I’ve once again brought out the Alfa, and I’m having another go. When I first started it, it just wasn’t working. Looking at it a few months later with a fresh approach seems to have really worked, and I’m happy with how it’s coming along. The other piece I’m working on is an old Austin for a family friend. It’s a beautiful car and I don’t think it’ll be too long until I’m able to post some pictures of the finished result!
Until then I suppose…
